Margaret McDuffie has a seemingly casual, offhand way…. Her mellow voice belies the sharp edges underneath her winding, almost conversational, melodies. Her music may come from another time but with her lyrics, speak plainly to today. So sit back and relax and enjoy the grooves. But you may feel a rush of bracing air blowing into your opened mind.

PASS IT ON is what I call a stealth record. Doesn’t overwhelm you at first and then by the end of the disc you’re shaking your head and saying, ‘this is really a good record.’ Great playing on all the tracks.

A summery Bossa Nova single.

A classic, but funky with attitude.

These singles and more are available on most streaming platforms and online stores.

reissue released!

"I first listened to an advance of this fine record--a burned disc without the credit notes--and found myself wondering if McDuffie had discovered a trove of long lost Sippi Wallace and Bessie Smith LPs at a particularly productive tag sale.  Where was she getting such sassy songs?  Amazingly, turns out they're all her 'mighty tight' compositions."
