DREAMERS OF ATLANTIS ~ song lyrics ~

Margaret McDuffie

Twenty Feet of Muddy Water - Bill Smith

I'm going down twenty into the muddy, muddy water, to search that old riverbed
I'm going down twenty into the muddy, muddy water, to prove there's no proof in what my friends have said -
That when you crossed the bridge the other day, well you took off your ring and you threw it away
I'm going down twenty into the muddy, muddy water, to try to find the answer there.

I'm going down twenty into the muddy, muddy water, though I know it's dark and cold
I'm going down twenty into the muddy, muddy water, to search for that tiny little band of gold
I know it didn't cost much, and I could buy more, but you can't buy a heart in the jewelry store
I'm going down twenty into the muddy, muddy water, to to try to find the answer there.

Grace

I almost lost my head, oh but I kept it
I sometimes don’t know how, even now
You were on your way, I couldn’t catch up
Even though I was always far ahead.

There’s some kind of medicine when we’re together,
It’s like elements making weather, oh but
I love it when you’re looking my way with that smile upon your face,
Yeah, I need it every day, now just like a cupful of grace
I am the fortunate one, I’ve got my arms around the sun.
And I know it, I know it, yeah

It’s easy to blame the things you can’t explain,
Time lost… if it hurts, oh it’s easy to make it worse.
I don’t believe in feeling down for nothing
It was time to turn around and see you smiling.
(Chorus)

Now I know the way, it’s our new way
I’ve got a compass and you can steer.
You say it all every time without conditions
I hope you know the music I hear.
(Chorus)

My Wild-Eyed Man

Where are you going, my wild-eyed man?
Getting your hands on something that no one else can,
Buttering up the skies and asking for rain,
Where are you going, my wild-eyed man?

What are you thinking, my bucket of charm,
Thinking that I’d ever do you harm?
You get such strange notions when you’re out on the farm.
What are you thinking, my bucket of charm?

Somber forever, my old oak tree,
Laugh as you might when you’re caught in the breeze.
You’ve got roots in your riggings and knots on your knees.
Somber forever, my old oak tree.

…Ain’t life a treasure with such company.

High River

We arrived in this valley about a century ago
Stopped short right here ‘cause there’s nothing like it, no
The ground’ll give you anything and there’s fine swimming in July
At least that’s how it was till somebody broke the sky, now

High River gonna sweep it away, everything that you thought would be there
Yeah, High River gonna rearrange all your worries and your cares.

Right now it’s an inch an hour, started six hours ago making gains
But upstate it’s not the rain, it’s the water coming back through the mains
Some folks’ll have to move on, some will go all out and rebuild
But do we keep on going till there’s no one left but on a hill?

High River gonna sweep it away, everything that you thought would be there
Yeah, High River gonna rearrange all your worries and your cares.

What’s this acting like there’s nothing left to lose,
Ain’t life hard enough without these blues?

CH
Yeah High River, gonna change all you know
High River might just stay and never go

What’s this acting like there’s nothing left to lose,
Ain’t life hard enough without these blues?

Icarus

The human enterprise is quite the affair
Just like Icarus and his woe
We won't be long in the air
Unless we find somewhere else to go.

If I Sang The Blues

If I sang the blues, I’d have plenty of reasons to
If I sang the blues, I couldn’t lie, but I’d never be telling the whole truth
If I sang the blues, I could stop crying, as long as I don’t ever stop singing, singing, singing.
Chorus: If I, If I, If I, If I, If I, If I… Sang those blues

If I sang the blues, I could be a farmer looking at a bad seed,
If I sang the blues, I could be a mother whose son just got shot by the police,
If I sang the blues, I could be a soldier who is ghost in his own life, nothing to do but back again.
(Chorus)

Day and night, the 7s are ringing
Just makes you feel better, when you’re singing.

If I sang the blues, I would feel human cause it’s human to,
If I sang the blues, I would be grieving for things I never even knew,
If I sang the blues, it wouldn’t be about me somehow, but the pain I feel coming through the air from anywhere you choose… I feel the blues
(Chorus)

Dreamers of Atlantis

It’s all riding on the digital, it ain’t analog no more, don’t you know,
Move on, honey, move on… oh
But it’s okay, so may joys so close and so right away,
Who would ever have imagined such a thing?
I hear in Atlantis they had some strange and wonderful things of their own,
But this Earth story is about changes, yeah you blink and it’s all gone.

Some days I let it get me way down, I know I’m just the universe’s clown
Along with everyone else, and all of history… oh,
Still I go on pretending there’s such a thing as never-ending
This human being can’t help but dream.
I’m sure in Atlantis, they had to be some dreaming going on,
But this Earth story is about changes, they never dreamed they’d just be gone.

We might as well live the way we really could if we understood anything at all
This Earth story is about changes & much is to come, whether we stand or fall
Simple times long ago, the river rock and the river roll
The innocence in the world - was it ever there, where did it go?
We’ve got to stick together, that’s all I know.

Will of the Wisp

Will of the wisp, that’s what they call me
Yes I’m substantial but I’m light of foot.
Will of the wisp in certain situations
Not your friend, not your enemy either, but
Oh, let’s face it: I love the wind.

Will of the wisp, coming and a’ going
I smile just knowing my freedom is me.
Will of the wisp, there is no danger,
No real stranger can even see me cause I
I know where I’ve been, and I love the wind.
Will of the wisp, oooh…

Will of the wisp, sleeping where you’re standing,
Stood where you slept when that dream came to you
The one about pie and home and aprons,
And up, up and away I flew
This is where I begin, yes
I love the wind… I love the wind.

PASS IT ON ~ song lyrics ~

Margaret McDuffie

Come In Out of The Rain

You wouldn’t make it past the breaking point if you had to,
But things are changing, and it’s happening to you, and you, and you.
Your life is shaken, still don’t know what it’s gonna take to
Come in out of the rain, come in out of the rain
Come in out of the rain and get dry

I could have told you, they had sold you out without regret.
You’re just a number, someone going under, easy to forget.
I know you’re haunted, and all you really want is to
Come in out of the rain, come in out of the rain
Come in out of the rain and get dry

Across the waters sons and daughters, some lost, some still to be found.
It’s gotta be a hard rain when your only choice is to swim, or go down.
And still behind you, many thousands still trying to
Come in out of the rain, come in out of the rain
Come in out of the rain and get dry, get dry,
Come on in out of the rain.

Pass It On

It could happen to me it could happen to
Anybody on the street
‘Little love comes your way when you least expect it
And you sorely need it
From a stranger having a better day.

Can’t beat kindness one to one
Store it up and pass it on,
Don’t look down, keep looking up
All around you flesh and blood.

When a stranger helps you
Then you know how it feels
Like something inside you didn’t know was broken
Suddenly it heals.
Yeah, we all have an instinct
Stronger than fear
Go out on a limb to help somebody
Any fear disappears, oh yeah.

Can’t beat kindness one to one
Store it up and pass it on,
Don’t look down, keep looking up
All around you flesh and blood.

A little love comes your way, pass it on, pass it on...

No Joke

As I walk along, I can’t help wondering if the sky will always be there,
I know you think I joke, but who is to say what is truth and what is science fiction?
Feel a spill coming through, burning up the ground,
There ain’t no going back, whoever leaves that town.

All undone by a creature that is not a creature, we have no name - it’s true,
We sign no lease and we can do just what we please, call it in-ex-or-able.
Some asteroid that happens by could make the earth a moon,
In cosmic law there is no love, nor is there any ruin.

One time in a dream, I called the folks at MIT, they solved it easy:
Focused a beam of how precious millions believed the world to be, and negated harm of all kinds.
Oh but there’s not a thing that you can do, except recycle, maybe
Ride yourself a bicycle, but just don’t cry, now, don’t cry baby

Cause no matter how far we stray, we’re all stardust, anyway
And some-day that we can’t see, we’ll all be diamonds
In another galaxy… no joke.

That’s What She Said

’I’m the one beating on your window
I’m the one pulling down your wires
I’m the one you never quite know
But you know enough now to fear like Fire

Get below, get inside, find somewhere that you can hide
You got a little time to put your mind to it
Cause I’m gonna make you wait, pick up a little freight
Hey hey, before I blow you away’

That’s what she said when the rain came down
That’s what she said when it washed away half the town,
‘Looks like I gained a little ground again.’

That’s what she said when the sea rushed in
Right through the streets in a tailspin
‘Here’s a hand that you know you can’t win,’
She said….

‘I’m the one rising at your back porch
I’m the one flattening the coast
I’m here and gone in a day, in an hour
But sometimes the briefest flings can tear you up the most

‘When I reach the second floor you’ll realize no door’s
Gonna to keep me out no more, no, but
I’m gonna make you wonder: is it just a little thunder
Or are you going under?’

She said when the rain came down
That’s what she said when it washed away the town,
‘Looks like I gained a little ground again.’

That’s what she said when the sea rushed in
Right through the streets in a tailspin,
‘Here’s a hand that you can’t win, oh no’
She said….

So Much More

Bum ba dee dah, what you say couldn’t be
If we include the truth in our summary of what’s going on.
The pace that we know is bringin’ it down to the bone, don’t you
Wind up alone without anyone else to reach for.
Such a waste always thinking life is a test,
I know we’re going to find ourselves somewhere laughing, yeah
The day we realize there’s no one-way-to-be, and faith is just
Love, and it’s more than you know.

Mmm, carry me, tell me lies enough to keep
Me afloat in the cream of oblivion, I know
The day’s gonna come I better up and look around,
Will it be in time, or will I just get knocked down by the last thing coming?
Such a waste always thinking things mean anything,
I know we’re going to find ourselves in a break through, yeah, where we
Give away the rest and hang on to the best
Oh, cause it’s more than you know.

Now you find yourself dreamin’ again,
Just when you thought you had gotten over
All the idealism of your youth, well dream, baby dream,
Oh, cause it’s more… it’s so much more than you will ever, ever, ever know.

Near Midnight

Well once again it’s near midnight and there’s no trace of you
I don’t have to guess why, no, it’s nothing new.
You show your face when you feel some disgrace, n’ take me in your arms so tenderly
Ask forgiveness with a kiss that’ll surely make me
Wanna hold on, hold on, I’m gonna hold, hold, hold on.

Used to be I was the one running ‘round all night
Chasing the mysteries and having fun and feeling all right.
You were so kind, didn’t seem to mind, kept to one thing or another…
You made it seem so simple then, but oh, brother
How did you hold… hold on, how did you hold, hold, hold on?

I was never unfaithful, but oh yeah, I was untrue.
Now it’s no wonder darlin’ why you’re doing the things you do.

Yeah, I guess you learned a thing or two or three ‘bout
How to get out and wander,
How to come home to sweet mercy
And duck all the lightning and the thunder.

I don’t regret all those nights on the loose
And I don’t think you should, either.
It’ll be so fine when we can share our minds
And our journeys undercover.
Yeah, I can hold… hold on, I’m gonna hold on
Yeah I can hold… on, I can hold on.

Sonic Bloom

I find I’m encouraged when I look upon the flourish of your
Smile is it just me, or your thoughts where I can see them?

In return, from my lips to you, this sweet mellow sonic
Boom blooming on the airwaves.

It’s no wonder I’m dreaming, when I ain’t got nothing better to
Do than what I should be doing all the day.

Tonight I’m swinging on a silver chord rappelling
Into the music in my Heart thinking of you here!

Come back, come back soon, explain to me without words
All these things that I know you want to say.

I need me some dreaming to get past this feeling
There’s too much going wrong out there to dream.

I’ll See You There

I‘m gonna go out dancing tonight, I wanna feel it
I wanna feel how good it can be
All up and down, outside and inside
Swim on my feet all night
Will there be somebody I wanna show
How it makes me feel to be on that dance floor?
Who knows, that’s the best part,
What it’s all for, oh yeah

I’ll see you there, I’ll see you there on the dance floor
I’ll call your name with a smile and a sway, and you will hear it
Like you never heard it before, just wanna get out on that floor

When I see you again, I can’t wait to see you
Make me laugh, show me how, if I’ve forgotten
Doesn’t take much, just a gentle touch
Mingle with me baby, single out this single lady
Honey, when you are moving it’s the sweetest sight
How much I love it when we are grooving, lover’s delight
Dancing with you inspires happy feelings
It’s all true, how it’s so healing

I’ll see you there, I’ll see you there on the dance floor
I’ll call your name with a smile and a sway, and you will hear it
Like you never heard it before, just wanna get back on that floor

Stepping and sliding, oh we’ll be gliding right into the day, yeah.
I divine in the dark we will shine like sunrays.
Nothing finer, nothing finer.

Roll It Again (Roll The Stone - remix)

Every time you think you can fly you find yourself right back down on the ground
Courtesy of somebody waiting just to shoot you down
Breaks my heart over and over again yet still now
I’ve got the hope that you will overcome the odds somehow

Roll, roll, roll the stone roll that baby out of the way
Roll, roll, roll the stone and bring on in the light of day

It’s all right to speak your mind, well at least sometimes
But right now, you see your demands are secondary to the crisis at hand
It’s not your fault your end is short, but keep the change you want in view
You still got it better than the somebody standing right behind you

Roll, roll, roll the stone roll that baby out of the way
Roll, roll, roll the stone and open up another way

It should be stated you’re not isolated lots of people trying to get the will to move
Whether out of a bad or into a good groove they say
The best way to do it is keep your mind to it, yeah make it your own
And just remember, you don’t have to do it alone, oh no

Roll, roll, roll the stone roll that baby out of the way
Roll, roll, roll the stone and bring on in the light of day

Roll the stone away, roll the stone away, roll it away.

Do What You Wanna Do

Do what you wanna do when you wanna do it, oh,
Cause you won’t always want to, no,
Do what you wanna do when you wanna do it, oh,
Cause you won’t always want to, no,
Do what you wanna do when you wanna do
What you want to!
